Course Details

Aims & Objectives

The overall aim is to develop in trainees an understanding of scaffold components, forms of construction and inspection procedures of basic access scaffolds and to comply with current legislation and Codes of Practice:
The course will give trainees an understanding of:
• Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974
• Work at Height Regulations 2005
• Regulations and Approved Codes of Practice (ACoPs).
• Scaffold Terminology
• Scaffold Materials
• Means of Access
• Gin Wheels and Ropes
• Scaffold Ties
• Construction Regulations and Recommendations of Basic Scaffolds.
• Practical Inspection
• Reports

The training objectives:

At the end of the course delegates should be able to:
• Identify and inspect tubes, boards, ladders, gin wheels, ropes and fittings correctly.
• State the main requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, the Construction (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1996, Work at Height Regulations 2005 and codes of practice relating to scaffolding.
• Identify the construction requirements common to all scaffolds to include:-

– Foundations
– Scaffold framework
– Platforms, handrails and toe-boards
– Ladder access

• Carry out inspections and fault identification on access scaffolds.
Complete and maintain reports in accordance with current statutory provision.

Learner Assessment:

The successful achievement of the above training objectives will be demonstrated using the following assessment methods:
• Practical Test
• Written Test

Training Staff Profile:

In order to be competent to teach on this programme staff is required to demonstrate the following qualifications and experience profile:
• NASC/CISRS approved basic instructional techniques or higher
• Minimum 5 years in scaffold supervision- CV to be provided upon booking
